Our InnerTube CD is being pressed as we post this. We couldn’t be more excited to feature some of this summer’s best independent acts. The CD includes a selection of tracks from The Luyas, Findlay Brown, NewVillager, Helado Negro, Syvia, Blondes, Wolfram, Mixel Pixel, Small Black, and Tranquility Bass. We’re also looking forward to hearing our DJ, Little Star Dweller, spin these tracks and more at our upcoming rooftop event in NYC.
Little Star Dweller just participated in an event at Cameo, which had a futuristic vibe. The set was an example of what you can expect from Little Star Dweller’s residency at Angels and Kings for Brain Wave Wednesdays. It features a unique combination of video & sound, using an interactive Brain-Computer Interface and LCD screen.
Here’s what people have to say about our InnerTube artists:
“When Findlay Brown followed up his 2007 soft-rock debut Separated by the Sea with…a keening cover of Joe Smooth’s 1987 house classic “Promised Land,” he appeared to be the rare singer-songwriter who was down with the dance floor” (SPIN).
“Enjoyably bonkers stuff from Brooklyn art collective NewVillager by Ben Dickinson involving some amazing costumes made out of household items – crowns of twigs, tote bag skirts, broom-head shoulder pads… that sort of thing. And lots and lots of tape” (Next New Music).
““Regresa” features a particularly catchy melody, for one. But there’s also something pleasantly strange about the construction of these songs: they’re at once skeletal, assembled from the minimum number of ingredients, and yet abound with a fullness that seems all-encompassing” (Dusted Magazine).
BLONDES is, thus far, the pinnacle of a creative union between Sam Haar and Zach Steinman, two New York based artists who have been “playing music together for many years, developing improvisational chemistry and listening to all different types of music… (Dummy Magazine).
“Awesome dance track called Fireworks by Wolfram (aka diskokaine) featuring vocals byKim Ann Foxman and Andy Butler from Hercules And Love Affair…This track is insanely good! And I can’t even begin to tell you how SICK the entire album is!” (nuWave Pony).
“Its a curious atmosphere that these four (Mixel Pixel) conjure up, but a unique one, no doubt. Making your way through this dank dance club of an album…” (Austinist).
“The truth is that they’re both illusions, because they’re art, and however they’re recorded, certain chord progressions just kind of make us feel like we’re on the beach” (Tiny Mix Tapes) on Small Black.
