The Nolitan Hotel boasts a new restaurant that features a portioned dose of nouveau comfort food that is reminiscent of Chef Troy Unruh’s grandmother, Ellabess. Fried sweetbreads, cod fritters for starters, dry-aged burgers and a new spin of surf and turf, pork chop and shrimp with mashed potatoes as mains. The menu also offers vegetarian options like orata, spinach, radicchio, and pears as a main and American sides of sauteed spinach with shallots and garlic, brussel sprouts with cherries and hazelnuts and of course french fries dressed with lemon salt, smoked paprika and chopped herbs.

The menu aims to cater to groups looking to share a dining experience with close friends. In January 2012, the restaurant will feature banquet tables and nooks to inspire conversation and sharing of ideas over meals and drinks. Ellabess is the fourth restaurant that Epicurean Management has successfully opened to service the needs of the community. For instance, in November 2011, they initiated a food drive to benefit The Bowery Mission for Thanksgiving. In January 2012, the restaurant will host local cultural organization, Fourth Arts Block‘s ArtUp Kickstarter Backer Party to benefit a new public art program. In October 2012, Ellabess will produce their annual benefit event called, “Not My Day Job” which puts its waitstaff’s creative talents from center table to center stage.

Stay tuned for Ellabess’ sister restaurant opening a stone’s throw away from the Bowery.
